Matthias Schorn: Emotions and music at the festival in MV!
This summer the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region can look forward to a very special musical highlight. The principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic, Matthias Schorn, will be part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival not only celebrate his long-standing commitment, but also present new programs that will make listeners' hearts beat faster.
Matthias Schorn maintains a deep relationship with the festival, which he describes as a kind of declaration of love. Who could blame him? Since 2005 he has been inextricably linked to the festival, where he immediately felt a special feeling of belonging. “The overall package is right,” says Schorn in a program book in which he lives and breathes his experiences. Many artists and loyal visitors who have registered as “Festival Friends” in the association know that this is about more than just musical performances. The family atmosphere created by the festival's dedicated team contributes significantly to the fascination.
An anniversary in strong solidarity
In the summer of 2025, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival will celebrate its 35th anniversary! With over 190 events at 80 unique venues, including castles and churches, this festival is one of the largest classical music festivals in Europe. The historical locations not only offer a unique setting, but also the opportunity to experience various programs. The festival also includes extraordinary series such as “Unheard of Places”, which take the audience into new musical dimensions.
The following events are on the program that you should not miss:
- 21. Juni 2025: Doppelkonzert mit dem Brandenburgischen Staatsorchester, mit Werken von Weber, Breinschmid und Beethoven.
- 21. Juni 2025: Schornys Stammtisch mit Matthias Schorn und dem Ensemble Faltenradio.
- 26. Juli 2025: Große Kammermusik mit Matthias Schorn und weiteren Künstlern, Werke von Beethoven und Brahms.
- 30. August 2025: Weltstars in Ulrichshusen mit dem Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
- 06. Dezember 2025: Barockes Weihnachten mit Tabea Debus und Dorothee Oberlinger.
Emotions and stories
With his ensemble Faltradio, Schorn is bringing a new program called “Überschall” to the stage, which will be performed in Loitz and Konau. The double concert in Ulrichshusen, where a world premiere by Georg Breinschmid is scheduled, is also particularly close to his heart. Breinschmid is known not only for his unique musical style, but also for his humor, which Schorn mentions and thus increases the anticipation for this performance.
A special highlight is the traditional “Schornys Stammtisch” after the concert in Ulrichshusen, where the artist would like to share stories and anecdotes from his career. “There’s something going on,” the listeners could aptly say, because what follows affects not only Schorn himself, but also his audience. In times of fast pace, these stories offer valuable space for emotional memories and deeper connections.
The Festivals are a place where music, people and emotions come together in an unforgettable setting. It will only be interesting to see how the audience reacts to the various events and what unforgettable moments they will experience over the course of the festival.
