Sassnitz pier: After 10 years, the renovation will finally become a reality!

The pier in Sassnitz on the picturesque east coast of Rügen is about to be made accessible to the public again. After almost ten years of blocking due to serious damage, there is finally positive news for locals and tourists. The renovation work is in full swing, and it is highlighted to put the historical sea level back into a walk -in state.

What led to this unpleasant Situation? The 105 meter long pier, which was built in 1993, was a popular starting point for walkers and day trippers for years. But security problems due to damaged wood coverings and railings led to the blocking. In order to master the situation, discussions between the trade association Sassnitz e.V. and the city administration that now bear fruit.

The first two construction phases are financed with a budget of almost 75,000 euros, and the work has already started. The exchange of the old wood covering with weatherproof bongossi wood is planned. The members of the trade association provide active support by procuring materials and providing workers. Over 230 sponsorships for the renovation have already been raised, but the call for further support remains.

Community project for an important attraction

The renovation not only represents the reopening of the bridge, but also a real joint project. Local entrepreneurs and the administration work hand in hand to gradually renovate the sea level. Current reports show that parts of the bridge can be repaired with relatively little effort. The bridge is modernized in a total of six sections and a platform, whereby the first two segments are planned so that they can be used for pedestrians.

With a total of around 650 planks up to the swimming platform, the project will take some time, but many citizens are actively involved and show a great interest. The sea level is not only renovated, but also modernized - an important step into the future for Sassnitz as a popular destination.
