Wolgast in change: New bypass brings a breath of fresh air for holidaymakers!

In Wolgast, a lot is happening: the new bypass, a major project to improve the quality of life in the city, is slowly taking shape. NDR Popular island of Usedom to keep away from the city. This not only aims at the residents: internal relief, but also improves the accessibility of Wolgast as a port and industrial location.

The construction work is currently in full swing and the structural challenges are high. Around 250,000 tons of sand and earth have already been moved to make room for the almost seven -kilometer bypass. In July and August it will be particularly turbulent here: over 15,000 vehicles every day ensure a high volume of traffic.

complex construction projects

The work is not without challenges. In order to implement the new connection, complex earthworks and bridge construction are required, which are closely integrated into the existing infrastructure. The landscape also accepts significant cuts, as up to nine meters of earth have to be removed. In the area of Bahnhofstrasse, dug up to twelve meters deep.

On the island side, 75,000 cubic meters of soil have already been provided for the expansion of the route. The asphalt of the section between B111 and the roundabout has started, with a new bridge that connects the mainland to the island of Usedom. The award procedure for this reinforced belt bridge runs under high pressure. This will be Europe's largest bridge of its kind, with a total length of 1.4 kilometers and a clear height of 42 meters above the Peenestrom.

future prospects and challenges

But the big project also brings challenges. The total costs for the street and the bridge amount to around 287 million euros. Possible price increases and delays must be considered, which cannot be ruled out in the current structural reality. The planning processes in Germany are often shaped by inefficiencies and a lack of coordination, such as an analysis of Pwc Shows.

In order to meet the transformation pressure of a climate -neutral economy and to counter safety policy challenges, massive investments in the infrastructure are necessary. Transparent and effective control is essential here. These aspects can also be transferred to the Wolgaster circumvention in order to avoid delays and cost overruns.

The planned continuity of the bypass should be reached by the end of 2028, provided there are no unforeseen delays. Drivers: Inside, however, new traffic tours and any traffic jams have to adjust, while the construction work is in full swing.

The commitment to the Wolgast local bypass is a step in the right direction and could not only improve the traffic situation, but also enhance the overall picture of this charming city. We are excited to see how the developments will continue to develop and hope for a good knack for the project managers.
