Celebration of the Barkholdt nursing service: 35 years for the region!
The Barkholdt nursing service recently celebrated its 35th anniversary with a warm ceremony at the Alpincenter Wittenburg. The service has become a fixture in the region over the years and operates facilities in Schwerin, Wittenburg, Boddin, Hagenow and Lübtheen. Around 120 employees ensure that many seniors are well looked after in their familiar surroundings. Whether outpatient care, intensive care or day care – the offering is diverse and individually tailored to the needs of the residents. Carmen Barkholdt, who took over the company from her mother Gudrun Meyer in 2014, emphasized the great importance of the team and the low fluctuation during the celebration. Her mother started as a community nurse in 1990 and has played an important role in the care of the region ever since.
Particularly noteworthy is the founding of the first seniors' shared apartment in Wittenburg by Carmen Barkholdt, which was launched in June 2014. These shared apartments offer older people the opportunity to rent their own apartment while at the same time being able to book care services as needed. This alternative form of living is part of a trend that is becoming increasingly important. The [Federal Ministry of Health](https://www.bundesgesundheitsministerium.de/themen/pflege/online-ratgeber-pflege/leistung-der-pflegeversicherung/pflege-wohngemeinschaften-und-andere-alternative-wohn Formen.html) points out that such living models, such as care shared apartments, offer advantages such as maintaining independence and privacy.
Shared apartments in focus
The shared apartments for seniors not only promote independence but also enable them to live together with people of the same age. Here, residents have the opportunity to live in their own rooms and use common areas for social activities. An important feature of this type of living is that there is no loss of privacy. This allows seniors to continue to enjoy their independence while receiving the support they need.
In addition, the nursing care funds have various benefits that can be used from care level 1, including nursing allowance and nursing benefits in kind. The so-called living group surcharge, which amounts to 224 euros per month, is specifically intended for people in need of care in outpatient living groups in order to cover the costs of a presence worker.
A look into the future
The anniversary in the Alpincenter also became a stage for Natalie Barkholdt, who will be the third generation to take over the management. She proudly reported that 42 employees were recognized for their many years of loyalty, which shows how important continuity and teamwork are in the Barkholdt nursing service. During her speech, Carmen Barkholdt emphasized her thanks to the guests and the team who made this special day possible. The long history and the connections that have been formed over the years were also recognized in the celebrations.
At a time when the demand for alternative forms of living and care options is constantly growing, the Barkholdt care service is ideally positioned. The combination of traditional care and innovative forms of living meets the needs of many seniors in the region and sets an example for the future of retirement provision in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
