Friends celebrate Gadebusch: 60 years promise at Burgsee!

Am Burgsee in Gadebusch is celebrated. Heinz Althorn and Peter Bollow made a promise 60 years ago: they meet at home when the city turns 800. This year it is so far; Gadebusch can look forward to a big anniversary. The city, which was documented as a "Lübische City" in 1225, is one of the oldest cities in Mecklenburg and has developed in many ways over the centuries. Gadebusch is known for its craftsmanship, its trade and has repeatedly shown perseverance under different state regulations. This is also illustrated by the call from Mayor Arne Schlien to all citizens, clubs and institutions to actively participate in the festival program in order to make the celebrations alive. More detailed information is available on the website of the city of Gadebusch.

In the run -up to the big anniversary, the city representatives already offer a number of events. From June 27 to July 6, 2025, numerous activities take place, including the Gadebuscher Musiknacht, the anniversary concert and a parade through the historic old town. Althorn and Bollow, who still live in Gadebusch and completed their teachings as painters and carpenters, are proud of their roots and are happy to remember shared experiences such as harvest festivals, ice skating and playing football in their youth. With beer, sausage and rolls in your luggage you will definitely bring these memories to life at the Burgsee, even if there is no longer a refreshing bath in the water.

a look into the past

Althorn also regretted the decline in leisure activities in his hometown. In the past, the Gadebuschers enjoyed the variety of bakers and butchers that no longer exist today. So he is much because of preserving the city as a meeting point for the next generations and keeping the memories of the old days awake. Gadebusch not only has a story that is shaped by different economic and cultural currents, but is also a city in change. From the arable town of it has developed into a modern city with a multicultural flair, which will be particularly expressed in the planned anniversary celebrations.

In view of the current developments,

The invitation to participate in the jubilee celebration is also an opportunity for citizens to express their ideas and wishes in relation to the future orientation of the city. "We all invite you to get involved," emphasizes the mayor and attaches great importance to the fact that the city remains a place of cohesion.
