Malchin shines: Light night delights visitors after renovation!
On Friday evening, Malchin was transformed into a veritable sea of lights while citizens celebrated the “Malchin shines” event. On this special evening, which marked the completion of the city's renovation, many visitors were drawn to the city center. In particular, the retired couple Ursel and Rainer decided to celebrate the colorful evening in their hometown, despite the Rostock Light Week taking place at the same time. Northern Courier reported a heavy influx of visitors and an atmosphere filled with colorful lights and festivities.
Mayor Axel Müller opened the event, which was initiated by city councilor Manuela Rißer. She was inspired by similar events in Stavenhagen to offer the citizens an unforgettable experience. The event began with a warm welcome from actress Ute Kotte, who addressed the audience from the town hall balcony in her role as “Erna Krause”.
Colorful lights and fascinating shows
The city center was a real spectacle during the event. Laser beams danced across the market square and created an impressive light display that captivated people. A city tour with stilt walker Sven Lange took the guests to various illuminated places in the city, including the Stone Gate and St. John's Church. The “General” told exciting stories from the history of Malchin. Northern Courier emphasizes that the highlight of the evening was the fire show by Marie from the Rethra fire crew from Neubrandenburg, which was impressively performed at the church.
The fire show, which ended with a tribute to Malchin in the form of burning symbols, was a real feast for the eyes, but some visitors said they were disappointed that it started a quarter of an hour earlier than announced. Nevertheless, the positive voices predominated. Christa Zemke praised the high number of visitors and the organizers for the successful event.
A look at Rostock
Parallel to the celebrations in Malchin, the Light Week took place in Rostock, which still runs today with the motto “Cosmic Light”. The event, which has existed since 2001, includes numerous light installations and projections in the city center, including at Steintor and Universitätsplatz. Stadtwerke Rostock ran the Light Week, using energy-efficient LED technologies and an environmentally friendly approach to make the entire event sustainable. Rostock today offers a comprehensive overview of this year's creative highlights, running through November 8th.
The region continues to reinvent itself with festive lights and shows that the interaction of community and culture leads to such magical moments. Despite small downsides like the fire show, which didn't quite live up to expectations, the evening in Malchin remains a shining example of cohesion and joy of life in the tranquil small town.
