Autumn garden ideas: lecture and seed exchange in Malchow!
The Malchow City Library is opening its doors to all garden lovers and nature lovers, because on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, an exciting lecture will take place as part of the seed library. At 6 p.m., the experienced speaker Juliane Drescher from “Natur im Garten MV” will delight interested listeners with the topic “Autumn in the Garden”.
Drescher, who works as regional coordinator for the LEADER region Mecklenburg Lake District - Müritz, not only studied nature conservation and landscape planning, but also has a big heart for ecological gardening. Her tips for collecting seeds and propagating plants are a real benefit for every hobby gardener. There will also be valuable information about designing gardens as winter retreats for animals.
Information stand and seed exchange
Accompanying the lecture, an information stand will provide information about the seed library and a seed exchange will take place. This concept has already taken hold in many cities. How waschbaer.de explains, seed libraries enable you to grow fruit and vegetables in your own garden or on your balcony and act as a network for the exchange of tips and seeds.
The idea behind it is simple: the first seed libraries were founded in the USA in 2010, and since 2013 there have been numerous similar initiatives in Europe. These libraries rely on a lending principle that is based on the well-known libraries. Visitors can borrow solid seeds, which they should then plant themselves and return later to maintain the cycle.
Entry is free!
A notable aspect of seed libraries is that they actively work to conserve endangered crops and promote biodiversity. They not only offer seeds, but also tips and instructions that are important for successful cultivation. Anyone can take part in the seed exchanges - a pleasure that should not be missed.
Admission to this special evening in the Malchow City Library is free, which makes the lecture a real bargain. A great opportunity for anyone who has a good knack for gardening or is simply looking for new ideas. So if you would like to learn something about caring for your garden in the cooler season and swap seeds at the same time, you should definitely put this date in your calendar. As I said: There is really something going on here!
