New construction of the bridge on Kanonsberg: construction work is on schedule!
Something is happening at Kanonsberg in Rostock: construction work for a new bridge is firmly on schedule. Like NDR reported, work is currently underway on the substructure of the new bridge, which is scheduled for completion in May 2026. This replaces a dilapidated bridge from 1860 that was dismantled in the summer.
The new pillars have already been concreted and are about to take the next step: they will soon be clinkered. Things will also soon get serious for the old steel superstructure, which is being recoated in a workshop. After this coating, it should finally be placed on the new substructures. The ammunition recovery service was also in action again, as access could not be granted everywhere before construction began.
An interesting discovery emerged during the work: parts of the historical fortifications of the ramparts were discovered in the excavation pits for the new foundations. The logs were documented and secured by the monument office - an important step in preserving the history of the region. The total construction costs amount to 1.35 million euros. However, weather-related delays could push the completion date to the end of May.
The Kröpelin Gate and its renovation
While hard work is being done on Kanonsberg, the Kröpeliner Tor remains scaffolded. Parts of the facade are loose and require urgent renovation work. The responsible architect has already started planning for the renovation, which should be completed by the beginning of 2026.
However, before the work can begin, the Ministry of the Interior must approve the 2026 economic plan for the KOE (Municipal Development Organization). These bureaucratic steps are often the first stumbling block that must be overcome in construction planning so that the region can shine in new splendor.
Overall, the situation on Kanonsberg looks promising. The progress is being followed with great interest by residents and interested parties, as the new building not only improves transport connections, but also contributes to the preservation of the historical building structure. It will therefore be exciting to see how the work develops and whether the deadlines can be met.
