CDU Röbel invites you: Mobility in rural areas – Join the discussion!

The CDU community association Röbel/Müritz invites you to an open regulars' table in the “Seestern” restaurant in Röbel on Wednesday, October 29th, from 7 p.m. The focus is on the important topic of “mobility in rural areas”. Chairman Dirk Kroeger emphasizes that alternative approaches to mobility are urgently needed in rural areas. Many people here rely on their private vehicles, as local public transport is often only designed for school transport.

While 60% of all routes in rural areas are covered by cars or other motor vehicles, public transport is unattractive for various reasons: slow frequency, limited service times and often insufficient area coverage make access to public transport difficult. This means that the mobility-related CO2 footprint in rural regions is almost a quarter higher than in urban areas.

The challenges of mobility

The daily journey, be it to work, to school or to leisure activities, is often long. On average, people in village areas travel up to 43 kilometers per day. A frightening realization is that the lack of public transport not only causes environmental pollution, but also creates social urgencies. Older people and people with low incomes are particularly affected by these deficits in public services. This not only increases migration from rural areas, but also the feeling of disadvantage.

In order to meet these challenges, innovative and integrated mobility concepts are required. The solution could lie in autonomous driving and car sharing models. So far, pilot projects with autonomous shuttles have shown initial approaches to improving public transport availability. However, these offers must be adapted to the needs of the rural population in order to actually achieve an improvement.

Invitation to discussion

In order to shed further light on the ideas and challenges surrounding mobility in rural areas, the transport policy spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Björn Simon, will take part via video conference. Stephan Bunge, chairman of the MVVG supervisory board, is also expected as a guest. Interested citizens are invited to actively participate in the discussion.

Registration for this open regulars' table is required by October 27th. If you would like to join in the discussion, you can register by calling 0172/6032955 or sending an email to dierk.kroeger@cduplus.de. Admission is free, but you have to pay for drinks and food yourself. It's worth being there because mobility in rural areas is an issue that affects us all and on which everyone has an opinion.
