This event marks the first hike together since taking responsibility for the National natural heritage Lübtheener Heide in 2017. Protection and nature conservation
The Lübtheener Heide is not only a beautiful place for hikes, it also has important natural and environmental significance. Originally as a former military training area, it must be carefully maintained, especially in the period after military use, which ended in 2013. Nature has recovered remarkably here in recent years. As part of the National Natural Heritage, a large part of these areas that are not privatized are handed over to nature conservation associations that take care of their development.
The region developed very well ecologically during and after the Cold War, as many areas that were useless for military purposes were declared “national natural heritage”. This means that these valuable areas are available for nature conservation and are not used commercially. Over military areas, which now cover over 156,000 hectares, are known to be home to a wide variety of species. Examples of other areas include the well-known practice areas in Grafenwöhr, which are known as the “Bavarian Serengeti” due to their pink thing friendliness.
Looking into the future
The nightjar viewing hike is not the only event in the area. A group hike will be held as early as AugustHeather blossomplanned. Anyone interested in these rare natural events should get a place quickly, as the number of participants is limited. Those interested can contact:0385 58863100register.
The hike only takes place when the weather is good, so keep your fingers crossed! If the weather doesn't cooperate, the hike will unfortunately be cancelled. But the hope for a clear, starry night in the Lübtheener Heide remains. The region not only offers impressive natural beauty, but also unique oases of peace and relaxation.
