Bad Doberan shines in the home check: quality of life at the highest level!
Bad Doberan is on everyone’s lips! In the most recent home check, the city received an impressive overall score of 7.34 out of 10 points, securing second place in the survey. It is particularly pleasing that the city was able to shine in the categories of quality of life, healthcare, retail and public transport. The highest satisfaction was measured in the Plate district, where participants awarded an average of 7.61 points. Lindetal, on the other hand, had to be content with just 4.84 points. This positive feedback shows that citizens are very satisfied with their living environment.
Mayor Jochen Arenz, who was independent and re-elected at the end of September, can look back on a successful term in office. What is particularly impressive is the fact that Bad Doberan is one of the few debt-free municipalities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Over the last few years, a lot has been invested in the infrastructure and almost all streets have been renovated. The vacancy rate in the city center is also low, which speaks for the attractiveness of the city. Since 2020, the Citybus has offered a free service that has already transported over 220,000 passengers, a real benefit for residents and the environment.
Challenges in the real estate market
But not everything is going according to plan - the real estate market is rated by citizens at only 4.38 points, and the lack of affordable housing is a serious problem, especially for families. Currently 3% of Bad Doberan residents are unemployed, while 50% are not actively working. Plans are already in the works so that the need for living space can be better met: 106 new apartments are to be built on the site of the old mud bath, including 46 in social housing. An important step in meeting the needs of the population.
The latest figures from the 2022 census show that a total of 13,012 people lived in Bad Doberan in May 2022, of which 47% were men and 53% women. What is interesting is that 17% of the population is under 18 years old and 26% is over 66 years old. Bad Doberan has a large number of households: around 46% are single-person households, while 25% include families with children and 28% include couples without children or shared apartments. The average net rent here is 6.46 euros per square meter, which seems quite cheap compared to other cities.
A look at the political trends
Politically speaking, the SPD received 31.1% of the vote in the last federal election, while the CDU received 16.1%. These election results reflect citizens' preferences and attitudes and could indicate which issues are particularly important. The Rostock district is also rated well overall, especially in terms of cleanliness, where Bad Doberan scored 7.23 points. With the monastery church and the famous Bäderbahn, which has served the route to Kühlungsborn since 1886, Bad Doberan can also be proud of a long tradition.
The home check and the results of the census, which will be published at the end of June 2024, provide valuable insights into how people live together in Bad Doberan. It remains to be seen how the city will develop in the coming years. Together with the positive quality of life and the planned residential projects, Bad Doberan could become even more attractive for future residents.
