Crivitz in transition: Citizens demand more participation and quality of life!

In Crivitz, a charming town near Schwerin, the Heimatcheck survey revealed a comprehensive view of the quality of life of citizens. A mixed picture emerges: While the closeness to nature and friendly coexistence are praised, there are also some construction sites that urgently need to be addressed. Nordkurier reports a strong sense of cohesion among residents, who, however, at the same time express frustration about the standstill in various areas.

Crivitz is struggling with dilapidated streets, particularly in the districts, which is causing residents to demand a traffic light on Parchimer Straße and a sidewalk to the supermarkets. Medical care has also come under criticism, as there is a shortage of pediatricians, dermatologists and ENT specialists. Another point of concern is local public transport: long waiting times and unreliable connecting trains are the focus of complaints here.

Criticism and desirability

Another chapter is everyday problems. Crivitzers would like to see more cleanliness in the city, with particular emphasis on waste separation and hygiene at benches and rest areas. The cycle paths also leave a lot to be desired, with a lack of suitable paths making for a frustrating experience. Despite these grievances, one participant expressed concern about increasing radicalization.

When it comes to cultural and leisure activities, citizens also see a need to catch up. Gastronomy and cultural events should be expanded, as gastronomy received the worst rating in the survey with only 4.21 out of 10 points, while retail scored 7.74 out of 10. There is still optimism: many believe that Crivitz has a lot of potential, provided that citizens and politicians pull together.

A city with history

The connection to the town of Crivitz in Wisconsin, USA, which was founded in 1883 by a German immigrant is interesting. The town now has a population of 1,093 and is part of the Marinette, WI–MI Micropolitan Statistical Area. After a typhus epidemic closed the sawmills in 1894, Hieronymus Zech took over the business and expanded the town for Polish immigrants. This historical development shows how much immigration can shape the face of a city.

The residents of Crivitz in Germany face challenges that are primarily characterized by a lack of infrastructure and inadequate services. This makes the voices of citizens who want to help shape the future of their city with their wishes and complaints all the more important. This colorful mosaic of needs and suggestions could help make Crivitz an even better place to live.
