Sternfeld train station: Future cultural hotspot for our community!

A lot is happening in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Sternfeld train station is becoming the cultural heart of the region. The Northern Courier reports on the exciting developments since Schloss Broock GmbH & Co. KG acquired the station in 2018. Through the EU-led Leader program, the ambitious project will receive the necessary support to redesign the station as a center for culture and leisure.

The charming old train station, which is located on the main line between Berlin and Stralsund, includes not only the main building but also former utility and toilet rooms as well as a goods shed with a loading ramp. However, thanks to the listed building protection, the project is not without challenges - approval procedures can take a long time. But the first construction phase has been successfully completed.

Impact on the community

The first successes are tangible: the amount already invested in the renovation process amounts to an impressive 600,000 euros, of which 150,000 euros come from subsidies. Mayor Thomas Korrmann emphasizes the historical significance of the station and sees a lot of potential in the positive development that is currently emerging. The roof, the facade as well as an inviting welcome foyer and modern sanitary facilities have already been completed - including a barrier-free toilet.

However, the plans go far beyond previous achievements: an event room is to be built in the goods shed, supplemented by an open-air terrace and various renovated farm buildings. The infrastructure was also considered: a new access road and a parking lot with 600 spaces are planned. An apartment for the caretaker will also be part of the project to support on-site events.

Cultural offerings and tourist attraction

The community is united: residents and public representatives are enthusiastic about the upcoming changes. The renovation of the train station is seen as a step in the right direction to further expand the tourist infrastructure and attract new visitors to Sternfeld. The Schloss Broock cultural association is already planning to develop attractive cultural programs to attract guests and create a lively range of events.

With a final financial need of 100,000 euros, the community is counting on further commitment and on many interested parties who would like to take advantage of the future cultural offerings. The train station, a place with history, will definitely soon become a hotspot for locals and tourists. Let us be surprised at what cultural treasures the renovation will bring us!
