Three cyclists from Schwerin master a 1000 kilometer challenge!
The cycling community in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will be placed in a state of emergency on June 20, 2025. Then the starting signal goes off for the race “Around Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania” in the Neustrelitz harbor. An ambitious ADVENTURE that covers a distance of almost 1000 kilometers and 4100 meters in altitude. Three experienced cyclists from Schwerin are also taking part in this exciting event: Sven Gerloff (56), Ronny Wöhler (53) and Steffen Skroblien (56). They will use their participation in the Mecklenburg Lakes Round (MSR) on May 31, 2025 as intensive preparation for their upcoming challenges.
The MSR itself, a popular event for everyone, attracts numerous participants from beginners to professionals every year. According to mecklenburger-seen-runde.de, it is an event that not only promotes cycling, but also strengthens self-confidence and mental performance. Over 4,000 cyclists have taken part in the last few years, and the 11th edition in 2025 will certainly make no difference. The start is between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. at the Kurpark in Neubrandenburg, with a finish at midnight.
Preparing for the challenge
The three people from Schwerin are no strangers to the cycling scene. Everyone has covered thousands of training kilometers in good years and trains regularly in winter training camps in Mallorca or Italy. After an impressive average of 30.6 km/h on the MSR, which they completed after 300 kilometers, they have to arrive in Neustrelitz by June 22nd at 10 p.m., including all breaks. Your preparation should therefore not be underestimated - at an average speed of 25 km/h you expect a journey time of around 40 hours.
For the three of them, the decision to drive the 1000 kilometers as a team is a kind of motivational boost. “We want to push each other,” explains Gerloff. And they all have respect for the track. The route leads along the state borders, through West Mecklenburg and passes many places to the destination in Neustrelitz. As Janus, you can organize our plantea for catering on your own. Support vehicles are allowed, but the challenges are no less.
Review of the MSR
At the last MSR, the three of them started at 10 p.m., after already 150 kilometers of driving. Even though one of the three cyclists had to turn back due to fatigue, the other two reached Schwerin after a total of 587 kilometers. Last year's winner only needed 31 hours and 11 minutes, the best individual starter from Switzerland needed 39 hours and 52 minutes for the route.
The MSR itself has a lot to offer: In addition to the main circuit, there is also a separate 100 kilometer circuit for women, which leads through the beautiful Feldberg Lake District. The supporting program particularly stands out with an expo and a festival in the spa gardens, which make the event an experience for the entire family.
Plans are already being made for the next MSR 2026, with registration starting on October 1, 2025 at 8:26 p.m. The anticipation for the event is palpable and preparations are in full swing. The cyclists are ready to begin the adventure and the fans are waiting in the starting blocks.
