My Fair Lady” inspires Neustrelitz: a masterpiece of emotions!

The much anticipated premiere of the musical “My Fair Lady” took place on October 26, 2025 in the charming atmosphere of the Landestheater Neustrelitz. The audience was enthusiastic and cheerfully applauded, despite the initial skepticism that some older audience members may have had. Director Ella Marchment, born in 1992, brought a modern adaptation of the classic to the stage that is being hailed as a visual masterpiece. The stage design, designed by Philomena Strack, and the costumes by Sascha Thomsen also contributed to the impressive performance.

The musical, which is based on the book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and the music by Frederick Loewe, has already been performed at the Landestheater Neustrelitz in the past. The last performance took place on January 25, 2014. “My Fair Lady” tells the story of phonetics professor Henry Higgins, who bets to turn a flower girl into a lady. The topic of origin versus language is dealt with in a captivating way.

A strong ensemble and musical highlights

The main roles included Laura Scherwitzl as Eliza Doolittle, Robert Merwald as Professor Higgins and Ryszard Kalus as Pickering. The other prominent actors are Ulrich Burdack, who plays father Doolittle, and Andrés Felipe Oroczo as Freddy. The performance is complemented by the support of the German dance company under choreographer Adam Haigh and the opera choir under Joseph Feigl, who also shines in impressive solos. The Neubrandenburg Philharmonic under the direction of Kenichiro Kojima will provide the musical accompaniment to the performance.

The premiere also marks another special event: 250 years of theater history in the Mecklenburg Lake District are duly celebrated. The next opportunity to experience “My Fair Lady” is October 31st, followed by further performances on November 8th, December 12th, December 13th and December 26th. Köpplinger staged similarly great emotions with numerous talented actors. The Munich performance shows once again that the classic is currently popular and builds cultural bridges. A real treat for musical fans and newcomers!

In conclusion, “My Fair Lady” delights audiences in Neustrelitz and elsewhere with its timeless message: “I take charge of my life and will not let it dictate me.” A clear call for self-determination, which is particularly important today.
