Hero of the day: Volunteer rescuer fights for injured swan Hektor!
There is reason to be happy in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: an injured swan from Teterow has successfully survived a risky operation. Volunteer animal rescuer Peter Koerner from Güstrow saved the animal, which fell onto a roof when landing. Koerner originally wanted to spend his vacation week doing home improvement and a trip to the Baltic Sea, but the swan's plight didn't make him hesitate.
On Monday, October 27th, he received an emergency call. The swan, which Koerner later named Hektor, was unable to move and was taken to a veterinarian by Koerner. The diagnosis was alarming: a fracture of the femur. Normally euthanasia would be the usual course of action in such a case, but Koerner did not want to accept that. He contacted numerous veterinary practices in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, but received many rejections until the Quandt and Bracke veterinary practice in Greifswald was finally ready to operate on Hektor.
Operation and support
Koerner Hektor set up a place in his pickup for the trip to Greifswald. During the operation he was very worried as the chances of survival were uncertain. But the doctors were able to successfully repair the fracture with a nail. After the operation, Koerner received the good news: Hektor is doing well and is being cared for in a foster home. Another vet visit is due in four weeks, and Koerner is optimistic that Hektor will soon be able to live in freedom again.
The swan's fate quickly spread across social networks, resulting in a wave of support. Many donations were received by the animal rescue association. Even the mayor of Teterow, Christian Wolter (AfD), thanked them publicly and made a donation. Thomas Klein from Levitzow also covered the entire cost of the operation - a great gesture that shows the solidarity in the region.
Despite the growing urgency of the rescue operation, Koerner is satisfied, even though his planned vacation falls by the wayside. He continues to advocate for the well-being of the animals in his area and has shown that he has a good hand.
A look into the future
In other news that could affect the region, there are moving developments in the entertainment industry. The “Ahsoka” series, which is an exciting sequel as part of the Star Wars universe, is very popular. The series not only brings back well-known characters, but also features strong female protagonists who provide a new perspective on the mythological stories of the Star Wars universe. Future productions, such as the Lucasfilm productions after the takeover by Disney, promise continued diversity, reports filmfolly.com.
While new heights are being reached in the world of entertainment, here in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania it is clear that great success can also be achieved in local animal and nature conservation. Hektor, the swan, is an impressive example of how you can achieve a lot with commitment and a good heart. A living example of how each individual can make a difference – in their community and beyond.
