Civil Protection Day 2025: Mastering water risks in Rostock!
On Saturday, July 12, 2025, the 3rd nationwide Civil Protection Day will take place on the Haedge Peninsula in Rostock. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., citizens can find out more about a varied program and talk to the organizations involved. The motto of the event is: “Water – using resources, mastering risks” and illustrates the central role of water in disaster control and civil defense.
Around 120 members of various organizations are available to present their extensive range of services. The participating groups include the Rostock volunteer fire brigades, the professional fire brigade, the German Red Cross, the Maltese relief service and the Technical Relief Organization (THW). The water brigade and the DLRG (German Life Saving Society) are also on site to present their important work. The attractive technical exhibits include, for example, the fire boat “Albert Wegener” and fire brigade control vehicles.
Diverse participation offers
Visitors can look forward to nine different stations covering topics such as flood defense and catastrophic protection. A special highlight will be the presentation of the new functions of the NINA warning app. Ralph Tiesler, President of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, emphasizes the importance of self-protection in extreme weather conditions such as heat and floods. “We have to adapt and learn to better manage risks,” says Tiesler.
Civil Protection Day not only offers informative contributions, but also exciting participation opportunities. Those interested have the opportunity to see the dog team in action or find out more about water rescue. The focus is on the dialogue with visitors about self-protection and state aid. There is also free entry, making the event real family fun.
Invitation to participate
The event is jointly organized by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief. It's a great opportunity for everyone to find out more about the work of aid organizations and get involved themselves. The German Red Cross, the DLRG and many others are represented with their information stands to raise awareness of emergency preparedness.
Through this platform, visitors not only get to know the organizations, but also receive valuable tips for their own safety. How important this is is shown by the commitment of over 20 actors from civil defense and disaster protection. They work every day to make life in Germany safer.
