Zander fishing in Waren: Experts reveal their top tips!

There is good news for all fishing enthusiasts in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: On Tuesday, September 16th, there will be an exciting lecture about fishing for zander with a spinning rod in the Warener Bürgersaal. Sebastian Hänel, an experienced angler and fishing coach with over 20 years of practice, will share his knowledge and give valuable tips. Under the title “Bock auf Tock?” Hänel would like to introduce participants to the behavior of zander and show how these can be implemented into successful fishing strategies. Anglers with questions or a desire for new approaches have come to the right place.

The zander, this powerful predatory fish from the perch family, is in great demand among anglers. Known for their firm, flavorful flesh, they offer not only a challenge to catch but also a culinary delight. Zander can be found in both flowing and stagnant waters and operates primarily at dusk and at night, which offers the best chances of catching. The participants in the lecture can benefit directly from Hänel's extensive experience, who has collected numerous successes and impressions from all over Germany. Tickets are already available at the Waren (Müritz) information center and online.

Optimal equipment for catching zander

In order to be successful when fishing for zander, the choice of equipment plays a central role. A medium-heavy spinning rod with a length of between 2.40 and 3.00 meters is ideal and should be combined with a robust spinning reel (size 2500 to 4000). Braided lines with a load capacity of 8 to 12 kg offer high sensitivity, while fluorocarbon leaders of 0.30 to 0.40 mm ensure inconspicuousness and abrasion resistance. When choosing bait, we recommend a combination of rubber fish, wobblers and jigs, which are particularly designed in sizes 10 to 15 cm and in realistic colors.

Sebastian Hänel will introduce the lecture participants to various fishing techniques that have proven themselves useful for zander fishing. These include jigging, where the bait is jerked along the bottom, and vertical fishing, where the bait is moved up and down directly below the fishing spot. Particularly noteworthy are the best times for zander fishing: early mornings and late evenings are particularly successful, especially on warm summer nights.

Tips for a successful fishing experience

Another important aspect is the choice of fishing location. Zander prefer to lurk along current edges and in shallow areas, such as groynes or rock packs. Transitions between different water structures and calm zones in the river are often a guarantee for successful catches. Anglers should also learn about optimal fishing techniques to maximize their chances. Patience and perseverance are essential because even the best bait is useless if the conditions are not right.

In order to catch zander with a “good hand”, it is advisable to be patient and pay attention to the signs of the water. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced angler, Hänel is sure that his tips and insights will inspire many participants. For just 15 euros for adults and 10 euros for children between 3 and 14 years old, the lecture is a great opportunity to take your knowledge of zander fishing to the next level.

A personal exchange with an expert like Sebastian Hänel can be worth its weight in gold and may also be the key to your next zander. Pack your rod and mark the date in your calendar!
