Recall of Iranian sweets: health risk for consumers!
There is currently a worrying recall in the world of sweets. The manufacturer Espido Food Trading Ardalan & Kourosh Dowlatabdian, based in Barsbüttel, has included two products in the recall campaign: the Iranian confectionery “Suhan Loghmeh” (400 grams) and “Suhan Takht” (360 grams). The affected best-before dates are August 16, 2025 or October 18, 2025. The reason for the recall may be unapproved animal ingredients that could come from Iran.
The recall affects a large number of federal states, including Bavaria, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia - and of course Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Consumers are strongly warned not to consume these products. Instead, they are asked to either dispose of the goods or return them to the point of sale. This warning was published on June 4, 2025 by the responsible authorities in Schleswig-Holstein.
Preventive consumer protection
The recall is carried out as part of consumer protection, so consumer safety comes first. If you have any questions about the products, you can contact the manufacturer directly at info@espidofood.de. In general, food recalls are not uncommon and often happen due to health reasons or defects. Consumer Protection Forum explicitly points out the importance of taking such warnings seriously.
A look at the page consumerzentrale.de shows how diverse the reasons for food recalls can be: contamination by bacteria such as salmonella, pesticide residues, unacceptable ingredients or incorrect labeling are common triggers. Manufacturers are required by law to recall their products if they do not meet food safety requirements. The website lebensmittelwarning.de, which is operated by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety and the federal states, has now established itself as a central contact point for consumers.
How can consumers stay informed?
To better protect consumers, users can now receive alerts via push, email or RSS notifications. This way you always stay up to date and can react quickly if a recall is announced. The new search and filter functions on the portal also allow you to search specifically for specific warnings, such as allergens or certain product classes.
Take good care of your food! The recalls are valuable protection that we should take seriously. Stay informed and safe in the kitchen.
